FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My perspective towards inter-sectional issues

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CHILDHOOD?

Sure, briefly. I grew up in Fontana, CA and experienced a rollercoaster of an environment. When my grandfather was alive, everything was great! My family was upper working class and I spent a lot of time at Disneyland and Bay Area. However, once he died when I was 8 or so, I started developing early symptoms of C-PTSD from abuse and trauma by my family and peers. In highschool, I took theatre classes to escape being forced to play basketball and fell in love with character development. I felt theatre was a calling for me but it was really about public speaking. I'll speak more about this topic in an article one of these days.

WHAT COMMUNITIES DO YOU IDENTIFY AS BEING A PART OF?

Great question! I am:

  • Black, namely a second-generation Afro-Latinx from Panama.

  • Differently-abled autistic person who lives with C-PTSD, Generalized Anxiety, Depression and HIV(+Undetectable).

  • Houseless Youth and Student

  • Queer/Trans/Asexual/Poz survivor of gender-based violence. I am non-binary and bigender. My gender experiences are auto-gender and womxn/femme.

  • Vegan, plant-based anti-speciesist of color. Also I have a fur-baby rescue cat named Jax.

WHAT IS POLITICAL ACTIVISM?

I think its important to understand what an activist is first. Everyone can be an activist! The only requirement is to get involved (active) with a cause you care about. For me, personally, activism is a calling to leave the world better than it was left for me.

The basis of my activism involves legislation, negotiation, and the distribution of power. My public speaking is intended to raise the conversation (diplomacy) and my position in the Green Party helps me influence the Bay Area positively through resolutions (course of action.) Because of this my politics are "Political" and not just politic.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST POLITICAL EXPERIENCE?

That's a hard question because I was introduced into politics at a really young age. Hmm...

The earliest I can remember was middle school when highschool student government folx came to visit us. I was asked, "What do I want to do when I grow up" and immediately said be a politician!

Later that day I went with them to talk about student government in other classrooms. It was an eye-opening experience for me that at 12 years old, I knew what I wanted to do with my life.

WHAT’S IMPORTANT IN YOUR LIFE TODAY?

Thriving and becoming one with the pure self. I went through a lot of pain and violence during my journey, at this point I want to center myself. I promised to firstly, always take care of Jax; secondly, get back to Berkeley; Thirdly, get involved politically. Luckily, I'll be moving back to Berkeley soon and I've always been persistent towards activism.  I'm happy where I am in life right now.
